The zygomatic major is a facial muscle that runs from the zygomatic bone (cheekbone) to the corner of the mouth. It is one of the major muscles responsible for facial expressions, specifically for elevating the corners of the mouth to produce a smile or grin. It is innervated by the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) and is commonly known as the "smiling muscle."
